Parent Phone Calls GALORE

So here’s the scoop~~~ it wasn’t in my job description —–but now I finally am “on board” and “I GET IT!!!”.  Despite my desire to avoid making numerous phone calls each day to the parents of misbehaving students, I have made it my religious mission to TCB everyday by making phone calls with the student [...]

April Fool’s Day

This Wednesday is AFD.  I love it!  Possibly my favorite holiday.  Sometimes I really get into it, other times I am busy or have no creativity.  This week is looking good at the moment.  There is another School Improvement Mtg after school.  I have volunteered to bring “snacks”.  Hmm…~~~~~~~~

Teachable Moments

As part of my professional development plan, I decided to form several book clubs for my students.  Each book club lasts a month and is during lunch time.  There are no tests, book reports or dioramas required. Possibly a “rubric” at the end of the month- but not necessarily.

Joys and Concerns from the Teaching Machine

The state of VA offers swim lessons to 2nd graders during the school day at a local YMCA.   I love this!
We launched our Anti-Bullying program today.  We had a rally and video of staff dressed as super heroes.  I am hopeful!
I still am not a fan of the testing atmosphere and environment.   We had to [...]

No Child Left Behind

This federal mandate from the past administration is bogus.  There are some children and their thug-like parents who need to be left behind- way behind.  Attempting to “change a culture” is extremely hard work and meets with much resistance.
I refuse to comment further on the grounds that………it would be inapprorpiate and unprofessional.

Chicago song: “Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is?”

Befuddled?  I sure am , and I know  students will be “off” for at least a week.  The time change is not always welcomed or revered.  Tomorrow is going to be “Hellish” because of the Spring Forward.  I don’t like to be a member of “the self-fulfilling prophecy club”,   but……….I will have to remind myself [...]
